Root Foundation aims to provide assistance to rural public by providing support and assistance for overall development. One of the project undertaken by Root Foundation is to minimise indoor pollution by providing cooking solutions through eco-friendly stoves.
Since, impact of smoke from Chulas or stoves in rural area has a major impact on the rural houses. This is one of the causes of internal pollution that causes 4.3 million deaths per annum, globally. Out of this, 1.3 million death contribution is from the Indian kitchens. But the problem for these kind of deaths are not only the Chula is not only limited to Indian kitchens, but it has remained a global issue for all the developing and under developed countries. However, it is important to grapple the issue worldwide. UN, also has launched the program called The Global Alliance For Clean Cook stoves by Hillary Clinton in 2010. Main objective of this initiative is to reach 10 million households to provide cleaner fuel.
Since the use of traditional stoves in rural areas creates not only the breathing problems but it also results in scarcity of natural resources like wood, coals, etc. Moreover, this also results in Low Birth Weight and Still births as quoted by WHO. It is equally poisonous and hazardous to health as outdoor pollution. Hence, to eradicate this traditional practice and introducing a healthy cooking alternative, The Root Foundation is providing newly designed environment friendly natural stoves that are:
